If you were as skeptical about the Nintendo Switch as I was, you might need to take a deep breath. I’ll admit I didn’t plan on buying the Switch for myself, but after the digital events of the last 24 hours I may end up blowing my tax return on the ever-anticipated console. Here’s why: reviews of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  are pouring in from all over the internet and the verdict is in:

It is rare for any one of these review sites to give a 100% approval of a game, and the fact that they all seem to be in consensus with one another is baffling. This can only mean one thing: Breath of the Wild is a must-play.

And trust me skeptics, I hear you. When Breath of the Wild was first announced I was naturally excited but realizing I would likely be spending $300 on a console for one really good game didn’t seem to make sense. This conundrum haunted me as I weighed the pros and cons: lots of hours of gameplay sounds good, and other games for this console might be okay, but will the Switch end up like my 10 year old dusty, never-used Wii?

But now I’m convinced. Game reviews exist for a reason, and I have a faith in Polygon and IGN in particular. Much like global warming, you can only deny the facts for so long. If everyone is saying the game exceeds expectations, then it must. I’m not thrilled about the cost, and the fact that I’ll be buying an entire console mainly for this game, but it seems to be a landmark in video game history. And it’s one that I can’t afford to miss.

How about you? Are you planning to buy the Nintendo Switch tomorrow (March 3rd) and play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? Let us know in the comments!

  1. I’m glad to know it’s getting good reviews. Last we saw this ironically was skyward sword, at least from IGN, not sure about others, but what i’ve heard so far is great and it’s quite different from our traditional Zelda’s, i can’t wait to get my hands on this tomorrow
